Silence itself can in fact be a form of communication and/or interaction. Personally experiencing and spending days beside close friends enduring inexplicable grief; I have felt silence the most fitting way to express honor sometimes. On the other hand, it is tragic that exaggerations, ego, and so many other abuses distort and disorient so many people on this crucial idea of communion with God. I've never heard God's audible voice, but have experienced an intimate communion with Him on and off since I was a child.
